Abstract

1460177 Towelling dispenser STEINER CO LAUSANNE SA 2 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 14662/74 Heading B8M In towel dispenser 100 the towel passes from a roll of clean towel 51 over a dispensing roll 181 to vertical reach 52 where it may be grasped by a user, over take up roll 135, into accumulation loop 57, over breaker 144 and on to soiled towel collector roll 59. On pulling reach 52 a maximum of 11 inches of clear towel is dispensed to form the front of a depending loop. The back of the loop is formed by soiled towel withdrawn from loop 57. Dispensing is limited by stop latch plate 261 which normally occupies the dotted line position of Fig. 5 and whose tab 276 follows thread 253 cut in an extension of roll 181. After four rotations of roll 181 stop dog 251 contacts plate 261 and stops the dispensing. Chain 200 connects roll 181 with a drive roll 191 which bears on the soiled towel mound or collection roll 59. Rolls 181, 191 are of equal diameter and so 11 inches of soiled towel are collected from accumulation loop 57. Preferably rolls 135, 181, 191 have a sandpaper surface to prevent the towel slipping. Roll 191 is attached to spring motor 300, Figs. 7, 9, comprising a mandrel 311 with a stop surface 316 against which is disposed a hook 321 on the inner end 321 of spiral spring 320. The outer end is attached by a rivet 326 to a clutch coil 325 which bears against a cylindrical side wall 303. Mandrel 311 is connected via rod 194 and chain 335, Fig. 2, to take up roller 135. On withdrawal of clean towel the rotation of roll 181 and cam 254, Figs. 4, 5, urges stop plate 261 counterclockwise about pivot 257 thereby lowering vertical rod 285 and thus removing support from the long arm of control lever 282, Fig. 2. The lever thereby pivots to bring its upstanding finger 284 into contact with a stop surface 281 on control ratchet 280 attached to take up roll 135. Motor spring 320, Figs. 7, 9, is thereby unable to turn roll 135 counterclockwise and is therefore wound up by the withdrawal of clean towel, clutch 325 serving to prevent overwinding. Roll 135 is however free to rotate clockwise to enable soiled towel to be withdrawn from accumulation loop 57 so as to form the rear of a loop depending from the dispenser. Time stop mechanism.-The angular displacement of stop plate 261, Fig. 4, produced by the wide portion 256 of cam 254 is maintained for an interval by contact between suction cups 270, 271. The interval is determined by the rate at which suction annulling air flows into the volume enclosed by cups 270, 271 via an orifice whose diameter is adjusted by needle valve 273. When the suction is released spring 279 causes stop plate 261 to rotate counterclockwise, Fig. 4, and swing to the right, Fig. 5. Roll 181 is then available to respond to a further pull on the towel reach 52 and motor spring 320 rotates roll 135 counterclockwise to take up all the soiled towelling hanging from the dispenser into accumulation loop 57. An interlock clip 268 holds the vertical rod in its upper position during the first revolution in each dispensing operation of roll 181 and cam 254. Hence if the amount of clean towel is less than that required to cause one complete revolution of roll 181 wide portion 256 of cam 254 does not cause take-up roll 135 to be permanently locked. Hence the remaining towel is taken up into the accumulation zone 160. A slim dispenser (Figs. 20-24, not shown) has the dispensing, take-up and collection means disposed between the clean towel roll and the soiled towel roll.
