Abstract
1458839 Injection moulding shoe soles BRITISH SHOE CO 29 Oct 1974 [29 Oct 1973] 46646/74 Heading B5A A machine for injection moulding shoe soles comprises a turntable 2 carrying a plurality of moulds including a mould piston and mould sides, a plurality of last holders 10 mounted on a column 8 rotatable with the turntable, a dummy last 13 mounted on each holder 10 for closing the mould to define a first mould cavity for moulding a first sole portion 40 at a first moulding station 50, and at last 11 on each of two opposing faces of the last holder for receiving uppers and closing a mould cavity defined by the mould sides, mould piston and first sole portion to mould a second sole portion 44 between the first sole portion and the lasted upper at another moulding station 84 opposite the first. The dummy last 13 includes a plate 16 in the shape of a shoe sole and pins (22) slidably and resiliently mounted in the plate for facilitating removal after moulding. A first mould, Fig. 10, is formed by a piston 38, side moulds 37, and the dummy last plate 16. After the outer sole layer 40 is moulded the side moulds 37 are opened and the plate 16 replaced by a lasted upper 45. The piston 38 is raised to its second moulding position and the side moulds 37 are closed for injection of the second layer 44 between the outer layer 40 and the upper. The dummy last plate may include further resiliently mounted pins to form holes in the outer layer which become filled with the second material to produce a pattern on the sole.
