Abstract

1458194 Coating red phosphorus DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 20 June 1974 [25 June 1973] 30134/73 Heading C1A Red phosphorus in particulate form is protected against reacting with a surrounding fluid by coating with an elastomer, e.g. styrene/ butadiene copolymer or butyl rubber. The coating may be applied by contacting the phosphorus with the elastomer in a fluid or semi-fluid condition induced by heating or with the elastomer in the form of a solution or gel in a solvent, e.g. a halogenated hydrocarbon, e.g. dichloromethane. The phosphorus may be pre-treated with an antioxidant (e.g. N,N<SP>1</SP>- dioctyl phenylenediamine) or the antioxidant may be included in the elastomer before application.
