Abstract

1458173 Ignition systems TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 28 Feb 1975 [11 April 1974] 8392/75 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal combustion engine comprises an oscillator 12 for generating controlled duration continuous wave high frequency, spark energy, the oscillator having an output transformer 13 with a control winding 14 thereon for starting and stopping oscillation of the oscillator at the beginning and end of each spark interval, electronic switch means 29 connected in series with the control winding for breaking and making a loading circuit which includes the control winding, a control circuit 32 for the electronic,switch means, the control circuit including photo-electric engine timed means 38 including a photo-transistor 40 for determining the spark intervals and circuit means incorporated with the control circuit 32 for minimizing the response time of the photo-transistor. As shown, the circuit means connects the photo- transistor in a common collector configuration relative to the control circuit. The circuit means also comprises means connecting the emitter of the photo-transistor to a pre-biased base of an input transistor 35 of the control circuit. A radio-frequency choke coil 56 prevents radio frequency signals from reaching the base of the transistor 64, Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a modification of the control portion of the system Fig. 3 (not shown) relates to a modified form of the photo-transistor portion of the circuit.
