Abstract
1457745 Burners AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS CO 12 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 57500/73 Heading F4T An oxy-fuel burner has a housing 12, 14 cooled by water flowing through coaxial annular passages 43, 53 and is provided with a bundle of tubes 58 which are sealed in an end plate 32 and connect with a fuel supply passage 34. An oxidizing fluid supply passage 44 communicates with the exterior of the tubes 58 and flows towards the combustion chamber 64 along the interstices between the tubes. The housing is in two parts 12, 14 which are secured by a quick-disconnect coupling 16 and sealed by gasket 22. The end flange 24 on the housing part 14 is bolted to the end plate 32 and is sealed thereto by gasket 36. In a modification the housing parts are welded together and the tube 54 separating passages 43, 53 is replaced by a plurality of open ended tubes arranged in and annulus and one end of each of which sealingly passes through a plate to communicate with a water supply passage. The passages for the supplies of fuel and oxidizing fluid may be reversed and the centre tube 58 of the bundle may be replaced by a liquid fuel conduit ending in an atomizing nozzle.
