Abstract

1457316 Grease CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 2 April 1974 [27 June 1973] 14656/74 Heading C5F A grease composition comprises a lubricating oil and as a thickening agent (1) at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal carboxylate or sulphonate salt of a polyurea compound having at least 2 ureido groups and having a M.W. in the range 250-2500 and (2) an alkaline earth metal carboxylate having 1-3 carbon atoms. The grease may be obtained by reacting in the oil a C 2 -C 30 polyamine, a C 2 -C 30 diisocyanate and a C 1 -C 30 monoamine or C 1 -C 30 monoisocyanate with (1) a C 2 -C 30 amino metal carboxylate or (2) a carboxyl source selected from amino acids, amino esters, aminosulphonic acids, lactams and mixtures thereof each having 2-30 carbon atoms, to form a carboxylated polyurea, followed by reaction with a hydroxide, oxide or carbonate of a Group I or II metal, and thereafter reacting within said lubricating oil an alkaline earth metal base with a C 1 -C 4 carboxylate acid to form an alkaline earth metal carboxylate. The grease may also contain an alkali metal nitrite and an antioxidant. The base oil may be mineral or synthetic.
