Abstract

1457244 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines GENERAL MOTORS CORP 10 April 1975 [25 April 1974] 14749/75 Heading F1F In a Wankel-type I.C. engine an ignition distributer has a shaft 58 driven through gears 62, 64 by the output shaft 28 and engaging with a bearing 59 in a stationary gear 34, which has its teeth 38 meshing with an internal gear 40 on a piston, or "rotor", 26 (to control the planetary motion of the latter) and also supports a bearing 32 for the shaft 28. The gear 64 is fixed to the shaft 28 and may be centred by thrust bearings 68, 70 abutting the gear 34 and a cover 72 fixed thereto. The engine may have more than one rotor and the distributer and associated gears may be at either end of the output shaft.
