Abstract

1456908 Cigarette filter MONSANTO Ltd 24 March 1975 [11 April 1974] 16199/74 Heading A2C [Also in Division C3] A cigarette filter comprises an extruded element of an open-cell foamed thermoplastic polymethylpentene resin (i.e. a polymer of 4- methylpentene-1) having a cross-section corresponding to that of the relevant cigarette. The elements are made by extruding a mixture of the resin and a volatile blowing agent to produce a strand of the foamed resin which is cut into the individual elements. The filter may consist wholly of the extruded element or this may form a part of the filter, the remainder being e.g. paper wadding or cellulose acetate tow.
