Abstract

1456535 Spray cleaning SYBRON CORP 13 Feb 1974 [9 March 1973] 6565/74 Heading A4F [Also in Divisions B2 and B8] A vessel, e.g. for chemicals, food or beverage, is spray cleaned by apparatus comprising a hydraulic cylinder 40 having an inlet at one end 42 for receiving cleaning fluid and a cleaning fluid supply tube 45 that extends sealingly out through the other end of the cylinder 40 and has mounted thereon a spray cleaning head 46. An annular piston is provided on the tube 45 and defines with the tube 45 and cylinder 40 a chamber 53 that varies in volume with fluid-pressure. Thus the pressure of fluid in the supply tube serves to move the tube 45, and consequently the cleaning head, to the extended position, the tube 45 and head 46 being returned to the retracted position, shown by fluid supplied under pressure to the chamber 53. In the embodiment shown, the head 46 in the retracted position is positioned within a casing 70 that is closed by a pivotable lid 71. Closing of the lid 71 may be achieved either by sliding a curved portion 75 thereof over lip 72 or, in an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) by means of a spring-biased rod (95) mounted on the head which abuts a cam (97) on the lid. A single pump may supply fluid to both the tube 45 and chamber 53 or, as shown, two pumps 60, 63 may be employed. The fluid may be supplied to and drained from the chamber 53 via a multi-way valve 65 which connects the chamber 53 to pump 63, which is of smaller capacity than pump 60, or to a drain.
