1456122 Cassette tape apparatus HITACHI Ltd 20 March 1974 [2 April 1973] 12456/74 Heading G5R A cassette-type magnetic tape recording and/or playback apparatus has a cassettereceiving location on a member 2, Fig. 1, which is movable between a cassette-loading first position and an operative second position, and a support 18 which in response to such movement rotates towards the loaded cassette to engage a record/playback head 19 on support 18 with the tape 26 and to engage a pinch roller 22 with a capstan 27 on a fixed member 1, roller 22 being mounted on an arm 23 on support 18 and the support 18 being pivoted 16 on the member 2, a member 28, Fig. 6, engaging the arm 23 so as to maintain a gap between roller 22 and capstan 27 during the movement of member 2 and there being means to release the arm 23 from member 28 automatically on member 2 reaching its operative position. The arrangement prevents damage and wear to tape 26, roller 22 and capstan 27 which might occur due to tape 26 being pinched between roller 22 and capstan 27 before the cassette reaches the operative position. Member 2 is movable in a direction perpendicular to the plane of Fig. 1. Member 28 is a ring on a shaft 30, Fig. 6, fixed in a bearing 29 in member 2 and urged downwards by a spring 32. As member 2 reaches its operative position the lower end of shaft 30 abuts the fixed member 1 to release ring 28 from arm 23. The cassette 3 is located by guides 13, 14, 15 and spring-biased pivoted arms 6, 9, 12, arm 6 being effective to push cassette outwardly on release of arm 9. Engagement between a fixed, inclined surface (25), Figs. 3, 5, 7 (not shown), and the support 18 pivots the support towards the cassette as the member 2 is lowered to the operative position.
