Abstract

1456023 Actuating slides; grinding PA LEGUEU 20 Nov 1973 [17 April 1973] 53753/ 73 Headings B3B B3D [Also in Division F2] A machine tool embodying a drive device for linear displacement of a movable carriage comprises a recirculating ball screw and nut transmission wherein the nut comprises a rack made up of a series of rack members 1 mounted directly in the machine tool frame, the movable carriage carrying a half-bush covering the section of the screw not engaging the half-nuts 1 and supporting the screw in bearing housings, and wherein each rack member 1 has a measurement reference member 9 adjacent its end faces to adjust the relative axial positioning of the rack members (dimension e) to enable the pitch of the threads thereof to be correctly related. The screw is mounted in bearings (Fig. 3, not shown) in end casings (12) attached to the half-bush (6) and pre-stressed to eliminate deflection.
