Abstract

1455277 Moulding reinforced resin pipes RESTEEL SrL 17 Dec 1973 [31 Jan 1973] 58413/73 Heading B5A A reinforced resin pipe is made by supporting a mandrel 4 (Fig. 1) for rotation about its longitudi - nal axis, while reinforcing material 7 is helically wound on to the mandrel by a travelling bobbin 6. The wound mandrel is then placed in a lower, trough-like mould portion 1 containing a pool of resin, and an upper mould portion 2 is lowered by cylinders 3 to disperse the resin through the reinforcing material. As described, glass, carbon or sisal fibres or cloth 7 are wound on to a tapered mandrel, and partially impregnated with polyester resin. A carriage 9 moves on rails 8 to place the mandrel 4 over the lower mould portion 1 and into stirrups 12, 12<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 5). The upper mould portion and mandrel are lowered while the stirrups slide in the lower mould portion 1. After heating to at least partially harden the resin, the upper mould portion is raised with teeth 13, 13<SP>1</SP> projecting to engage and lift the stirrups (the teeth are projected by levers 14, 14<SP>1</SP>) and mandrel 4, which is pushed out of the pipe by a piston 11. Automatic operation can be effected with a plurality of sets of apparatus.
