Abstract

1454504 N-Methylol textile resin concentrates WARWICK CHEMICAL Ltd 13 Feb 1974 [21 Feb 1973] 8557/73- Headings C3R and C3T [Also in Division D1] A storage-stable concentrate for a textiletreating bath comprises at most 10 wt. per cent of (a) a textile-softening agent, at least 15 wt. per cent of (b) an N-methylol textile resin, and (c) a metal salt catalyst for the resin which will co-ordinate with the resin to form a complex, optionally with (d) glycolic, citric, tartaric or malic acid, or HCl, or H 2 SO 4 . The preferred concentrations are (a) 2-10 wt. per cent; (b) 20-40 wt. per cent, (c) + (d) 4-15 wt. per cent. In the examples baths are prepared from (a) 100-222 p.b.w. of a 20 or 25% aqueous dispersion of glycol or glycerol monostearate, a fatty glyceride mixture, dimethylol stearamide or a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane, (b) 600 or 700 p.b.w. of a 40% solution of dimethylol dihydroxy ethyleneurea or a 45% solution of dimethylol ethyleneurea, and (c) 140-180 p.b.w. of a 40% solution of Zn(NO 3 ) 2 .6H 2 O (or 50% with citric acid and acetic acid), or MgCl 2 .6H 2 O solution (50% alone or 60% with 3% AlCl 3 ) with water to total 1000 p.b.w.; the baths are diluted with 2-6 vols. of water and used to treat 1 : 1 or 2 : 1 polyester/cotton or cotton fabric.
