Abstract

1454040 Liquid evaporators T W KEET 23 Sept 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 41377/74 Heading A5G A device for broadcasting vapour (e.g. of perfume, insecticide or bacteriostat) comprises an airtight reservoir 12 for liquid, a liquid outlet 38 from the reservoir below the surface level of liquid when in the reservoir, a pad 14 of liquidabsorbent material (e.g. pressed felt) attached to the reservoir over the outlet 38 to be in direct contact with liquid in the reservoir so that in use liquid is absorbed directly into the pad through the outlet 38 under the influence of both gravity and the capillary action of the material of the pad, both the density of the material of the pad 14 and the size of the outlet 38 being so selected that the rate of liquid evaporation from the pad when substantially saturated is equal to the liquid absorption rate of the pad. In the apparatus shown, the reservoir 12 and pad 14 are contained within a housing 10 provided with louvres 20, 22. A motor-driven fan 18 is also located within the housing. Pad 14 is situated inside a container 32 with perforated sidewalls 37 and with a large opening 36 in its base 34.
