Abstract

145,385. Montgomerie, J., and Mac- Millan, H. M. March 29, 1920. Frames and framing; keelsons.-In oil-carry. ing and like ships having a plurality of watertight compartments, each compartment 1, Figs. 3 and 4, is formed as a self-contained unit as regards strength and fluid tightness and extends from the centre 4 to the side 2 of the ship. These units or compartments are formed with deep built keelsons 6 and horizontal stringers or shelves 8, which are discontinuous at the bulkheads 7, the transverse frames 5 being unsupplemented by floors. Each compartment is enclosed by the shell 2, deck plating, and the centre-line bulkhead 4.
