Abstract

1453792 Microwave ovens BEREB SA (BUREAU D'ETUDES RECHERCHES ET EXPOLITATION DE BREVETS) 10 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973] 01251/74 Heading H5H A vacuum microwave drying oven has a housing 1, divided into a first section 1a for receiving microwaves and a second section 1b separated from the first to have a lower microwave field, a conveyer 6 for conveying material from the first to second sections, a microwave window 7 sealed by a wall 8 of a material non-absorbant to microwaves between the first section and an adjustable resonant cavity 9 having apertures 10 for circulation of cooling air, a funnel 15 and a collecting reservoir 17 communicating with the funnel via a valve 16. The sections are separated by metal partition 4 with a slot 5 for convyer and microwaves. Cooling water coil 14 absorbs energy to maintain the energy field in section 1b at a lower level than section 1a. Roller 13 crushes foamed dried material to enable it to pass through slot 5. Microwaves generated within housing 23 pass to the oven via telescoping resonant cavity sections 9a, 9b. Windows 21 permit visual inspection. Window 22 permits infra red measurements to enable control of process parameters (degree of vacuum, speed of conveyer, intensity of radiation, rate of supply of liquid via pump 12). Plates 19 cool the product before it is chopped by cutters on roller 18 and falls into vibrated funnel 15.
