Abstract

1453184 Air cushion vehicles PFRCORSON 25 Oct 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 35917/72 Heading B7K An air cushion vehicle has side walls 8 defining a transversely concave cushion space which in operation is closed at its front end by an air curtain which also delivers air to the cushion, the air being delivered through a transverse slot at the lower end of a duct 4a by a fan 4. A further fan 6 at the aft end of the vehicle delivers air to an aft duct 6a of which the upper wall 14 extends to a stepped cavity 16 which directs the airflow aft for propulsion of the vehicle and it is stated that some air assists in maintaining the cushion. Additional propulsion is provided by an air propeller 20. In an alternative arrangement fan 6 and duct 6a are dispensed with.
