Abstract

1453151 Variable resistors CTS CORP 5 Nov 1974 [5 Nov 1973] 47743/74 Heading HIS A variable resistor device is adjusted by a conductive lead screw 15 driving a slider 20 by means of an insulating projection 21, the slider carrying a contact 30 which has fingers 31 engaging a resistance element 11 and a tab 32 electrically contacting the screw 15, the contact 30 also urging projection 21 into engagement with the thread of screw 15. During assembly of the the device, one end of the shaft is inserted into an aperture 13b in a housing 12 and the other end is then snap-fitted into a flexible collector element 36. Prior to assembly, tab 32 of contact 30 is latched on to a portion 26 of slider 20 (Fig. 11, not shown), but upon positioning of the shaft 15 tab 32 is dislodged thus permitting contact 30 to slide smoothly. At the limits of travel of the slider 20, projection 21 ratchets across the thread of screw 15. The resistance element 11 is secured to the housing by its terminals 27 which have rolled and pressed shoulders 29.
