Abstract

1453107 Low-flammability compositions CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 15 March 1974 [17 March 1973] 11583/74 Heading C3P Low-flammability or self-extinguishing plastic or plastic elastic compositions comprise (1) 7 to 50 weight per cent of largely amorphous polyolefin or mixture thereof with up to 2 parts by weight of an elastomer per part of largely amorphous polyolefin, (2) 10 to 40 weight per cent of a polybutene oil or mixture of up to 0À3 part of drying oil per part by weight of polybutene oil, (3) 3 to 30 weight per cent of chlorinated paraffin and (4) 30 to 70 weight per cent of filler, with or without (5) 0À5 to 5 weight per cent of antimony oxide. The polyolefin may be atactic polybutene-1 or a copolymer of butene-1 with ethylene, propylene or hexene-1. The elastomer may be natural rubber, or polyolefln, butadiene/styrene, butadiene/acrylonitrile, butyl, polybutadiene or polyisoprene rubber. The polybutene oil may be prepared by Friedel-Crafts polymerization of C 4 -cuts containing butene-1, butene-2 and optionally isobutylene and butadiene. The drying oil may be a polybutadiene oil or a triglyceride, optionally with cobalt octoate or naphthenate as hardener. The chlorinated paraffin may contain 45 to 58 per cent of chlorine. The filler may be silica or a silicate, sulphate or phosphate, optionally together with ferric oxide or carbon black. The compositions may be used in building, pipe-laying, car manufacture and bonding plastic articles.
