Abstract

1452961 Sewage treatment with oxygen BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [8 Jan 1973 1 March 1973 17 Aug 1973] 1028/73 10080/73 and 38910/73 Heading C1C The invention aims at providing a treatment which combats bacterial formation of H 2 S in a sewer; it claims a process of treating sewage while it is being held on or is flowing through a sewer, in which oxygen-rich gas is injected under pressure into the sewage. Oxygen-rich gas means pure oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas mixture having a proportion of oxygen greater than that of air; a small proportion of ozone may be included. Injection pressures are in the range 1À5-10 bars, with bubbles of diameter 0À05 to 0À15 mm. Preferably the oxygen is 98% pure. The treatment may be used with rising or gravity sewers. The dissolved oxygen concentration or the BOD of .the sewage may be monitored downstream of the injection point(s) and used to control the oxygen feed automatically. A computer may be used to control the injection.
