1452308 Mounting for a rotary mower MASSEY-FERGUSON-PERKINS Ltd 19 Dec 1973 [6 Jan 1973] 58750/73 Divided out of 1451896 Headings AIF and A1P A rotary mower is supported from below by a ground engaging draught bar 98 which is pivotally connected to a drag bar 50 so that the cutting elements i.e. rotors 12, 14 are offset to one side of the tractor. The end of the drag bar remote from the mower is pivoted to an L shaped support member 42 which has one limb journalled in an upright tube 46, the tube forming part of a rigid frame 40 which in use is connected to the tractor hitch. Drive is taken from the tractor p.t.o. shaft, through a main gearbox 78 and shaft 86 which together with universal joints 82, 84 forms a connection between the main gearbox 78, and a secondary gearbox 58 mounted above the inside rotor 12, a shaft 88 and a third gearbox 90 mounted above and driving the outside rotor 14. A frame incorporating a member 54 and a bar 56 pivotally attached to its upper end connects between the inner end of the draught bar 98 and the secondary gearbox 58, forms a rigid unit with rotor 12. The frame member 54 is connected to the top of frame 40 by a bar 64 having a slot 72 cooperating with a pin 68 to take up lost motion. A break-back mechanism 96 connected between frame 40 and drag bar 50 holds the mower in its operating position; if an obstruction is encountered the break-back releases the mower which then swings rearward about the axis of tube 46. To raise the mower clear of the ground, frame 40 is raised by the tractor hitch, the drag bar 50 pivots about its link 52 with the draught bar until a stop 94 at the end of the drag bar abuts frame member 54, after which the mower is lifted clear of the ground. Movement to the transport position is effected by disengaging the break-back, the mower is then manually swung rearward into the longitudinal axis of the tractor, end 48 of L tube 42 then engages a catch 122 holding the mower in this position. A parking stand 110 is lowered to the ground to support the mower when it is disconnected from the tractor.
