Abstract

1452152 Multiple fibre-tipped pens ALBE SA 17 Jan 1974 [31 Jan 1973] 2326/74 Heading A4K [Also in Division B6] A multiple writing instrument comprises a plurality of retractable fibre-tipped ink or erasing fluid cartridges 4a-4f arranged side by side in a barrel 1, evaporation of liquid from the barrel being prevented by a removable cap 2 or by the tip of the cartridge in the writing position. A selected fibre-tip is extended by sliding a rod 5, connected to the cartridge of the selected tip, against a spring until a lug (7) Fig. 4 (not shown) on the end of the rod engages a shoulder (11') Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) on a plunger 3 slidably received in a body 16 secured to the end of the barrel. Pressure on the plunger effects disengagement of the lug through the camming action of a tapered surface (11") on the body 16 and causes the return of the tip to the retracted position under the action of the spring. The inner cross-section of the barrel-may be circular with the cross-sections of the cartridges being segments of the circle.
