Abstract

1452068 Pipe couplings GRUNDY (TEDDINGTON) Ltd 7 Feb 1974 [23 Nov 1972] 54227/72 Heading F2G A coupling for fitting to an upstanding bung hole collar 10 of a pressurised liquid cask comprises an outer sleeve member 14 in which is disposed a resilient ring 20 with a plurality of rigid plate-like elements 19 united thereto around its outer surface, each element having a groove cooperating with a circumferential rib 21 in the member 14 so that it can tilt in a radial direction and a projection 22 to snap over a bead on the collar 10 formed by an undercut groove 10a, and a plunger ring 15 axially movable by means of a handle 17 from the position shown to one in which it is located inside the ring of the elements 19 and adjacent the ring 20 to lock the elements 19 against radial tilting movement after the projections 22 have been engaged over the bead on the collar 10 .The collar 10 is provided internally with a seal 13 resiliently biassed by a spring into engagement with a head part 12a and the upper end 11a of an extractor tube 11. An inner plunger ring 16 is found integrally with the ring 15 and on movement of the handle 17 the ring 16 engages the seal and depresses it into the collar 10 allowing communication between the insides of the outer sleeve member 14 and the cask. When the member 14 is in position on the collar 10, the resilient ring 20 seals against both the plunger ring 15 and the head part 12a.
