Abstract

1451728 Dry shavers SPERRY RAND CORP 4 Oct 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 43135/74 Heading B4B [Also in Division B3] A method of making a landless inner cutter for an electric shaver comprises removing material from a strip 44 of metallic material to provide the strip with a first transverse archlike edge 70, Fig. 7, in the plane of the strip and between side edges of it, cutting the strip to form a second transverse archlike edge 70A in the plane of the strip, the edges 70, 70A, forming an arch-shaped blade section 18 in the strip, bending the blade section so as to move it substantially normal to the plane of the strip and repeating the cutting and bending steps. The strip 44 is formed with leg portions 22 along either edge and the blade sections 18 are formed in the flat central portion of it. A reciprocating tool 45 cuts the successive archlike edges, 70, 70A in co-operation with a die 46. The tool is formed with an arch-shaped surface 51 and a slanting cutting and bending surface 54 and the die is provided with a retractable insert 49 about which the blade sections are bent. The initial archlike edge 70 is formed either by the tool 45, in which case an area bounded by the edge 70, a tab 64 and side portions 74A, is cut and bent and subsequently removed or it may be formed, e.g. by grinding. The formed strip is cut to length and a supporting portion 14 is engaged with the blade sections 18, for welding thereto.
