Abstract
1451647 Automatic control of corona generating apparatus XEROX CORP 21 Dec 1973 59538/73 Heading G3R A corona generating device for use in an electrostatographic copying machine includes a shield which may be connected to a screen located adjacent a surface to be electrostatically charged. The shield or screen current is sensed and its value used to control the current supplied to a corona generating wire so as to maintain the shield or screen potential constant. As shown, a scorotron 10 comprises a corona generating wire or coronode 11 enclosed by a metal shield 12 connected to a screen 13. The screen current is sensed by resistors 16, 17 which provide one input to a regulator 18 which operates to vary the current supply to the wire 11 so as to maintain the screen voltage constant. The shield 12 may alternatively be electrically isolated from the screen 13 and voltage divider 16, 17, and the screen 13 may be omitted.
