Abstract

145,133. John, A. E. March 22, 1919. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A self-closing valve of the kind controlled by an auxiliary valve has a combined actuating piston and valve member adapted to close the inlet port at the moment of closing the outlet port, the latter remaining fully uncovered up to the moment of the final throttling of the inlet port. The valve face 8 works in conjunction with a seat 9 and is secured to the lower end of a piston 7 which is bevelled at 11 and has one or more peripheral grooves 10. The actuating pressure which leaks past the piston is controlled by an auxiliary valve 18 actuated b a push 17. The spindle 15 works through a conical packing 16 which holds it in position until the piston contacts with an adjustable screwed stop 20 and closes the valve. In a modification controlled by a float-actuated auxiliary valve, an adjustable leak is provided to the back of the piston, and in a further modification controlled by a stopcock arranged on a pipe connexion the stop 20 is replaced by a tubular member screwed into the back of the piston.
