Abstract

1451082 An exposing scanner CROSFIELD ELECTRONICS Ltd 16 Sept 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 45988/73 Heading H4F An exposing scanner for reproducing images on light sensitive paper 4 comprises a revolving drum 5 for mounting the paper and a scanning head 6 mounted on a lead screw 7. The head 6 comprises a row of light emitting diodes 8 which produce a strip of light on the paper 4 the light intensity of the diodes being uniformly varied in response to a common input signal. The common input signals come from a conventional input scanner 9 and are received and amplified by an amplifier 10. A current control unit 11 containing respective control circuits for each diode permits the response of the diode to be adjusted to provide uniform intensity across the line or any required intensity profile. The control circuit for producing continuous tone images by uniformly varied intensity of the diodes in response to the common input signal. is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown) and that for producing half tone images constructed of dots of varying intensity produced by switching some or all the diodes on or off in Fig. 3 (not shown). The light emitting diodes may be of the gallium arsenide or gallium phosphide type. Red emitting diodes may be used with panchromatic film and green emitting diodes may be used with orthochromatic film. The optical system may include an aperture to define the size of the spot.
