Abstract

1450846 Separation of oil-water emulsions TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 July 1974 32225/74 Heading C5E Petroleum oil-water emulsions are separated by treating the emulsions with one or more salts of an alkyl ether sulphate and one or more conventional demulsifiers. The alkyl ether sulphates can have the formula or where R is an alkyl, e.g. lauryl or tridecyl, radical, n is 1-10 and M is alkali metal, ammonium, alkaline earth metal or magnesium. The conventional demulsifier can be selected from oxyalkylated phenolic resins, oxyalkylated glycol esters, oxyalkylated polyols, polyoxyalkylene glycols, polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block copolymers, alkyl and aromatic sulphonates, oxyalkylated amines and esters formed from short chain di-carboxylic acids and high molecular weight polyols. The examples relate to the separation of oil field emulsions.
