Abstract

1450387 Token freed dispensers COUNTING INSTRUMENTS Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [21 Sept 1972] 43775/72 Heading G4V Apparatus for controlling access to dispensing means comprises a reader 1 for reading primary information from a token 2, a first store 6 for storing said primary information, manually operable input means 9 for the supply of secondary information to a second store 12 and means 16 permitting dispensation in response to the receipt of said primary and secondary information by said stores. The embodiment described relates to control of the fuel pumps of a road delivery organization, the primary information identifying the driver, the sites to which he has access and the type of fuel to which he is entitled and the secondary information relating to the vehicle to be supplied, the type of fuel required and the intended use of of the vehicle. A reader 1 and manual input device 9 are provided at each pump. A token operated microswitch 4 in the reader 1 is connected to a read-in controller 5, which if the previous transaction has been completed, causes the information to be read from the token and applied to store 6 and a verification device 20 which checks that the token is genuine and in force. Read-in controller 5 also applies a signal to manual input device 9 to enable it to receive information, this condition being signalled by illumination of lamp 10, and the secondary information entered via push-buttons 11 is applied to store 12. When the store 12 has received the necessary information a signal is applied to pump control unit 16, which if it also receives signals from store 6 and verification device 16 initiates or permits dispensation from the selected pump. Amount signals from a meter 21 are stored in store 22 and the contents of stores 6, 12 and 22 and date/time information from a clock 29 are recorded on a printed paper roll, punched tape or magnetic tape in device 28 when the token is removed from the reader. A duplicate printed recepit may also be issued to the user.
