Abstract

1449452 Screw sockets ADBAR (PATENT CO) Ltd 10 Dec 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 47970/72 Heading F2H A threaded insert 1 having a body at least part of which is externally tapered as at 10 is wedged in a hole 3 by driving a radially expansible sleeve or ferrule 2 axially over the tapered part 10 to bite into the wall 30 of the hole 3, the sleeve or ferrule having a longitudinally splined or serrated exterior 24. The ferrule, which may be internally chamfered at one end to provide a cutting edge, may be of ferrous or non-ferrous metal, plastics or ceramic material, as may be the insert 1. The ferrule 2 may have a smooth bore and a longitudinal split 20, or, as in Fig. 5, have internal longitudinal splines or serrations 25 arranged relative to the external splines 24 to produce a corrugated wall which is radially expansible without the need for a longitudinal split.
