1449447 Preparation of monoalkyl or monoaryl ethers of dihydric phenols AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY and OXIRANE CHEMICAL CO Ltd 18 Dec 1973 [25 Dec 1972 14 Feb 1973 10 May 1973] 23015/75 Divided out of 1432780 Heading C2C A method for the manufacture of monoalkyl or monoaryl ethers of dihydric phenols by the oxidation of phenyl ethers of the generic formula (wherein, R<SP>11</SP> is one member selected from the group consisting of alkyls and aryls having 1- 12 carbon atoms), is characterized in that the said oxidation is effected with organic peracids at a temperature of 120‹ C. or less in the presence of at least one member selected from pyridine- 2,6-dimethanol; 8-oxyquinoline; (wherein, R<SP>1</SP> is one member selected from alkyls having 4-10 carbon atoms); Na 5 R<SP>1</SP> 5 (P 3 O 10 ) 2 (wherein, R<SP>1</SP> is one member selected from alkyls having 4-10 carbon atoms); polycarboxylic acids containing N and possessed of a structure from which a heavy metal ion-chelating property can theoretically be assumed, magnesium salts sodium salts and potassium salts thereof; polycarboxylic acids containing OH and possessed of a structure from which a heavy metal ionchelating property can theoretically be assumed, magnesium salts and sodium salts thereof; sodium salts, potassium salts and mono- and di-alkyl esters having 1 to 12 carbon atoms of phosphoric acid and sodium salts and mono di- and tri-alkyl esters having 1 to 12 carbon atoms of pyrophosphoric acid.
