1449127 Bonding particulate materials FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 Nov 1973 [11 Dec 1972 (2)] 57048/72 and 57049/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division E1] A particulate material containing a source of metal ions is bonded by treating with an aqueous formic acid solution to produce an acid solution containing metal ions, and allowing or causing (by adding a basic substance) the pH to increase so as to form a metal hydroxide to bond the particles together. The process may be used in the bricketting or pelletizing of materials containing iron or zinc oxide, for example fume from basic oxygen steelmaking, or blast furnace dust. It may also be used for the consolidation of soils, foundry sands or stockpiles of particulate materials, and in the manufacture of iron-oxidecontaining heat storage blocks.
