Abstract

1448864 Hydropneumatic vehicle suspension units AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 20 March 1974 [21 March 1973] 13626/73 Heading F2S A hydropneumatic tube-within-a-tube vehicle suspension unit has a flexible tube 45 extending from end to end of the annular chamber between the tubes, with gas in the chamber between the inner 18 and flexible, tubes, and liquid in the chamber (shown empty) between the outer 10 and flexible tubes, this chamber being in communication (at the piston-rod end of the unit, not shown) with the working chamber. Having the liquid chamber on the outside aids cooling. The unit may be self-levelling, with external level regulating means (n.s.) controlling supply and exhaust of liquid. Damping is provided by a metering pin 62 co-operating with a washer 67 by-passed by a passage 68, and with a spring-biased valve element 75.
