1448217 Flow heater KALTENBACH & VOIGT 24 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49643/73 Heading H5H A through flow heater for use in a dental rinsing blowing or spraying device comprises an insulated heating wire 120 arranged in a through flow chamber 110, which heating wire is made from thin low inherent rigidity wire which is bundled together to form a self-supporting configuration permeable to fluid passing through the chamber 110. The wire is bundled like a skein of wool. Heating resistor 120, insulated with a coating of fluorocarbon elastomer, is connected to terminals 19 led out of the heater through bores 26 in connector 13. Connector 13 consists of a sleeve 12 and three inner portions 13a, 13b, 13c, of which 13a has an annular groove 14 and longitudinal passages (Fig. 2, not shown) connecting fluid inlet 15 with chamber 21; 13b has counterbores 27 and fluorocarbon elastomeric 0-rings 17 sealing the terminal leads 19 to connector 13 and 0-ring 18 sealing 13b to the sleeve 12. A thermostat 23 is mounted on chamber 110. The heater may be used in a hand held dental appliance or in a conduit before such an appliance. Four such appliances (Fig. 3, not shown) may be connected to air, water and electricity. Water held in chamber 21 is maintained at a desired temperature by a 4À3 volt supply. When water is withdrawn a changeover switch 25, Fig. 1, connects a 24 volt supply to the heater.
