Abstract

1448096 Organic compounds CIBA GEIGY AG 28 Sept 1973 [5 Oct 1972 20 Aug 1973] 45609/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Dyestuff intermediates are prepared as follows: 2 - hydroxy - 3 - cyano - 4 - sulphomethyl pyridone - 6 - (sodium salt) and the corresponding 1 - ethyl compound by reacting γ-chloroacetoacetic acid ethyl ester with sodium sulphite and cyanacetamide or cyanoacetic ethylamide; and 1 - ethyl - 2 - hydroxy - 3 - carbamoyl - 4 - sulphomethylpyridone - 6 - (sodium salt) and 2 - hydroxy - 4 - sulphomethylpyridone - 6 - (sodium salt) by reacting the corresponding 3-cyano compounds with concentrated H 2 SO 4 at 55‹ and 125‹C. respectively.
