1447432 Pleating-machines D DEMAGNY 26 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 18277/74 Heading D1S A pleating machine for pleating paper, woven and non-woven fabrics or plastics sheets comprises (a) two tangentially-arranged rollers 1, 2 rotatable intermittently, in use, from a continuously rotating drive shaft 7, (b) at least one fixed pleat-forming plate 20 directed towards the line of contact between the rollers 1, 2, (c) a toothless comb formed by two blades 21a, 21b each fixed to a respective crossmember 22a, 22b slidable between two tracks 23, 24 and one of which blades is adapted to pivot about a horizontal axis relative to the cross members with the two blades undergoing relative pivoting movement in the manner of the two arms of a compass, this pivotal movement being produced by a rod 28 and a cam 31 driven by the shaft 7, the comb being mounted for pivotal movement in a plane containing the line of contact of the rollers 1, 2 by virtue of the fact that it is driven at one end by a control rod 32, pivoting about a point 33 intermediate of its ends, the rod 32 being pivotally connected at one end to the crossmembers 22a, 22b with the other end being actuated by an eccentric 36 on the shaft 7, the comb pivoting about an axis in a vertical plane through or near to that end of the rollers 1, 2 opposite the rod 32, and (d) a table 46 designed to receive the sheet to be pleated and being retractable to leave clear that part of the machine situated near the roller 2 on the side of the pivotal axis of the comb. In the embodiment described, Figs. 1, 2 and 5, the rollers 1, 2 may be cylindrical or, to form converging pleats, slightly conical and have on the shafts 3, 4 thereof meshing pinions 5, 6, Fig. 5, of which the pinion 6 is driven intermittently from the continuously rotating shaft 7, Fig. 2, by a kinematic chain comprising at least one free-wheel 8 double-welded at 9, 10, a rod 11 pivoted at 12 to a nut displacable by a screw 15 in a track 13 of a rocker 14 pivoted at 17, a rod 18 and an eccentric 19 on the shaft 7. The lower blade is angularly oscillated by a lever 25, Fig. 1, having a roller 26 movable on a plate 27 supported by the rod 28 pivoted at 29 and carrying a roller 30 engaging the cam 31. The rod 32 for effecting the pivotal movement of the comb as a whole is pivotable about a nut 33 displacable by a lever 35. The shaft 4, Fig. 5, is mounted in plates 39, 40 so that the roller 2 is only supported on one side whilst the shaft 3 is mounted in plates 39, 41 interconnected by crossmembers (42), Fig. 6 (not shown). The plate 41 supports a mechanism for lifting the roller 1 and a plate 43 supporting a sector plate 44 integral with that end of the comb opposite the end driven by the rod 32. Balls to facilitate sliding are located between the plates 43, 44. The table 46 is mounted on a pantograph system 47 the lower arms of which are connected one to the support 48 and the other to the plate 39 or 40.
