Abstract

1447341 Hard facing metal substrates G R HELD 13 Jan 1975 1282/75 Headings C7D and C7F A substrate, e.g. a steel cutting edge, is hard faced with a carbide, e.g. of W, Ti, Ta, Mo, by applying a Cu-free matrix material having a melting point of 1900 to 2100‹F, e.g. by spraying a Ni-Cr, Wc or Co base alloy, then applying an organic adhesive, sprinkling the carbide particles on the adhesive, and then heating, e.g. in a hydrogennitrogen atmosphere, to melt the matrix material. The organic binder may be water-glycerine, waterstarch, laundry size, castor or mineral oil.
