Abstract
1447157 Carbon product BAYER AG 30 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 37938/74 Heading C1A A carbon product, preferably a carbon foam is prepared by pyrolysing a foam comprising a polymer containing carbodiimide groups in an inert atmosphere, preferably by heating the foam at a rate of 100‹ to 2000‹ C. per hour in an inert atmosphere to a temperature of 600‹ to 3000‹ C., at which temperature it is held for 0À5 to 50 hours. The inert atmosphere may be of argon, helium, nitrogen or carbon dioxide. The density of the product is preferably below 200 kg/m.<SP>3</SP>. The carbodiimide foam may be subjected to an oxidative treatment prior to carbonization.
