Abstract

1447001 Hydraulic piston-cylinder dampers N K H SPRING CO Ltd 4 March 1974 [7 March 1973 and 25 Sept 1973] 9687/74 Heading F2S That end cover of a hydraulic piston-cylinder damper through which the piston rod extends includes a flexible member 9 which deforms outwardly (as shown) as the piston 4 moves into the cylinder 1, so as to accommodate the piston rod volume, and a piston rod guide member 8. The flexible member 9 of rubber or plastics material is secured between an outer member 7 and the inner member 8. The outer member 7 is welded (Fig. 6 not shown) or screw threaded to the cylinder 1. The outer member 7 may be omitted. In the unstressed state, the flexible member 9 may have trapezoidal or parallelogram cross-section (Figs. 5-9 not shown) rather than rectangular. The damper provides a substantially constant damping force over the stroke. (Graph of Fig. 10, not shown). It is used for mounting a bumper. The medium is compressible grease.
