1446853 Multi-storey buildings; erecting buildings C H DOBBIE T M PRUS-CHACINSKI N I PALLETT J D WINDERS and W B HARRIS [trading as C H DOBBIE & PARTNERS] 2 Nov 1973 [8 Dec 1972] 56876/72 Headings E1A and E1S [Also in Division B8] A movable gantry crane 20 useful in the erection of a structure (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), which comprises several broad-span bridge-like structures such as 11d, lie, 11f, arranged side by side in spaced relationship to cover an area 12, such as a railway goods yard or a multi-lane highway, comprises a girder 23 long enough to span the structure (10) and supported by movable supporting columns 21, 22, and a platform 55 suspended on hangers 50, 51 in a position to lie beneath the bridge-like structures such as 11d, 11e, 11f. As shown there is a forward working bay 70 served by a crab 39 and a rear working bay 71 served by lifting equipment 42 on a monorail 41. The set of hangers 50 can remain in places throughout the erection of the structure (10) and may be rigid tubes. The hangers 51, and a further set of hangers 52 are attached to the platform 55 by releasable fastenings 61, 62 and also include jacks or tensioning devices 63, 64. The whole structure (10) includes substructures 11a to 11j interconnected by flooring 13 on which buildings (14) are constructed. Fig. 5 shows the stage in construction where substructures 11a to 11d have been erected and interconnected by flooring 13 and adjacent sub-structure 11e has been erected and braced against the sub-structure 11d by temporary stabilising beams 66. The next sub-structure 11f is in the course of erection and the platform 55 underlies the substructures 11d, 11e, 11f to avoid risk of articles or materials falling to the ground accidentally during construction, and to avoid obstruction by temporary scaffolding erected from ground level. The sub-structure 11f is assembled by using the crab 39 while the sub-structure 11e is permanently secured to the sub-structure 11d by flooring 13a. The beams 66 can now be used for temporarily stabilizing the substructure 11f from the sub-structure lie. The platform 55 is supported at the rear by rollers 57, 58 respectively temporarily attached to the substructures 11e, 11d and the hangers 51, 52 slackened off and released from the platform 55. The gantry 20 is now free to advance by a distance equal to the spacing between the sub-structures and the hangers 51, 52 may be re-attached to the platform 55 ready for a further cycle in construction.
