Abstract

1446713 Mounting pump rotors on shafts SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 11 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47401/72 Heading F2U [Also in Division F1] In a rotary positive displacement gear pump comprising a chamber having opposite side covers, an inlet and an outlet and a pair of gear members and at least one driving shaft substantially at right angles to the side covers and connected to one of the gear members by way of a key fitted in a groove in the terminal end face of the shaft and in at least one recess in the gear member, the shaft and gear member are metallic and the key is made from a plastics material having the particular properties of high coefficient of expansion, resistance to wear and a relatively high impact strength, e.g. an acetal copolymer based on trioxane. In a particular embodiment, the pump is of the trochoidal type in which the key 3 is fitted in a keyway on the end face of a shaft 4 and in two recesses 5 and 6 of the inner gear wheel.
