Abstract

1446606 Spray carburetters HITACHI Ltd 26 Oct 1973 [ 1 Nov 1972] 50016/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division G3] The air/fuel ratio supplied to an internal combustion engine is controlled by adjustment of an air bleed valve 16 in a branch on the fuel passage from the float chamber 11 of a carburetter in response to an electrical signal representative of the concentration of a constituent of the exhaust gas. As shown, a zirconium device 6 ahead of a catalytic converter 4 produces a voltage which decreases with increasing oxygen content. This is amplified by transistor 7 to heat an element 9 in a liquid capsule 8 with bellows 13 connected to the valve 16. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the capsule is replaced by an electromagnet. It is mentioned that alternatively carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide in the exhaust may be measured by an infrared analyzer of the "non-dispersion" type or the carbon monoxide by the change in resistance of the tin oxide.
