Abstract
1446157 Cigarette conveyors LIGGETT & MYERS Inc 10 Jan 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 1138/ 75 Heading A2C A cigarette transfer assembly 10 comprises a rotatable transfer drum 16 having a smooth surface for moving a continuous stream of cigarettes from a receiving position 23 to an ejection position 24, the stream being composed of individually spaced apart cigarettes, means 18 for retaining the stream of cigarettes on the smooth surface of the transfer drum between the positions, a roller 17 positioned adjacent the drum at the ejection position, the roller having a friction surface thereon for engaging the cigarettes of the stream and means for rotating the roller at a greater speed of rotation than the drum to cause each cigarette in the ejection position to be rolled by the drum prior to ejection. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, ejection roller 17 is provided with gum rubber strips 26 spaced from the surface of plates 19 to define a nip at position 24. Cigarettes are ejected at 24 at an accelerated speed so that jamming is effectively eliminated.
