Abstract
1445754 Carbon-containing absorbent for heavy metals ELEPON KAKOKI CO Ltd 16 Nov 1973 [20 Nov 1972] 53437/73 Headings C1A and C1C Heavy metal ions are adsorbed from industrial wastes by contact with a carbon-containing with carbonizable organic material in the proportion of 0À25 : 1 to 2À0 : 1 by weight; baking the mixture at 160-600‹ C., washing the resulting carbonized product with water and drying. The mixture may be baked with or without shaping to form granules or powder respectively. Examples of the organic materials given include natural and synthetic polymers, cellulose and carbohydrates. Heavy metal ions removable by adsorption include Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, Zn and Cd.
