Abstract

1445400 Rotary vane pumps or motors ALFRED TEVES GmbH 18 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 19721 48486/73 Heading F1F The vanes of a rotary vane pump or motor have a plurality of small pits formed adjacent their outer ends on at least one of their lateral faces so as to improve the adhesion thereto of a fluid film and thereby reduce friction between the vanes and the walls of their associated slots. In one embodiment the vanes 7 of a motor are urged outwardly by springs 8 acting on their inner ends and the recesses are provided on the lateral face 13, exposed to the higher fluid-pressure, in a region 13a extending over a length of from <SP>1</SP>/ 3 to <SP>1</SP>/ 2 of the working stroke of each vane i.e. the distance travelled by a vane between its fully extended and retracted positions. The recesses can be produced chemically by etching or corroding, mechanically by eroding, stamping, hammering or boring, or by sandblasting or ball blasting. Preferred dimensions of the recesses are disclosed in the Specification.
