Abstract

1445201 Colour printing BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS Ltd 7 Feb 1975 [17 Nov 1973] 53511/73 Heading D1B Substrates e.g. textiles, wood, asbestos and resinated felts are treated before or after transfer colour printing with an alkylated melamine formaldehyde resin comprising units of the general formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are H or -CH 2 OR where R is H, methyl, ethyl or propyl, there being 0-2 H atoms and 4-6 -CH 2 OR groups per unit, at least 1.5 of the R groups being other than H. In preferred embodiments, the resin treated substrate is dried and then printed with simultaneous curing of the resin or the resin is damp or wet cured, washed, dried and then printed. In Examples 2 and 3 a cotton-polyester 50/50 mixture and cotton are pretreated with the resin, dried and then transfer printed.
