Abstract

1445061 Gas stream cleaning BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS INC 5 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 34376/74 Heading BIT Solids are separated from a gas stream 26 by returning a proportion 24 of the gas stream against the main flow 26 whereby a "dynamic screen" is formed, e.g. in an inlet probe 12. A pump 14 draws gas through inlet probe 12, a minor proportion (clean gas) passes through throttle valve 18 and the major proportion e.g. 38% is passed through branch 21 and is ejected concentrically against the indrawn gas. In Fig. 2 the inner of the two concentric tubes in the nlet tube and the annulus between the two walls contains the flow cycled back to form the "dynamic screen". The apparatus may be used for separating solids from flue gas prior to analysis, (e.g. as illustrated in the drawings) or stack gases of chemical plants carrying catalyst residues, magnesium oxide, and acid mists. The apparatus may be in series with other separators, e.g. electrostatic precipitators on wet scrubbers.
