Abstract

1444786 Squirrel-cage constructions ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 14 Dec 1973 [19 Dec 1972] 57961/73 Heading H2A In a squirrel-cage asynchronous machine, having a laminated stator 1 with a winding 4 and a rotor core 2 of iron-silicon alloy sheet metal laminations, the squirrel-cage shorting rings 7, 8 are made of iron substantially free of silicon and are the same shape as the rotor laminations. The end-rings are joined to the conductor bars 5 by silver solder and hold the rotor lamination pack in tension when the machine is cold. The end-rings 7, 8 are preferably laminated and this particular construction affords a higher starting torque for lower stator current (Fig. 2, not shown). Also, the laminated end-rings allow expansion of the conductor bars 5 when running without causing undue forces leading to fracture. Cooling ducts 6, 9 are provided in both rotor and stator.
