Abstract

1444730 Plasticizer compositions MONSANTO CO 6 Dec 1973 [7 Dec 1972 (2)] 56569/73 Heading C3P A plasticizer system comprises a blend of (1) at least one phosphate R 3 PO 4 where each R is the same or different and is aryl, alkaryl wherein the alkyl group contain 1 to 3 carbon atoms, C 1 -C 12 alkyl, cycloalkyl or C 2 -C 9 alkoxyalkyl with the proviso that when all the R radicals are alkyl each radical must have 4 or more carbon atoms and (2) a C 14 -C 28 diester of a C 4 -C 9 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and C 3 -C 12 alkanols or alkoxyalkanols, other than 2-ethylhexyl adipate or dibutyl adipate, the phosphate, diester and the blend having vapour pressures of less than 10 mm. of mercury at 175‹ C. and the ratio of (1) to (2) being 5 : 95 to 95 : 5. In the examples polyvinyl butyral is plasticized with a mixture of tri-2-ethylhexylphosphate, 2 - ethylhexyldiphenylphosphate or cresyl diphenylphosphate and one of dibutoxyethyladipate, dihexyladipate, dibutyladipate and C 7 -C 9 adipates. The plasticized compositions are extruded into sheets and used for laminating glass sheets.
