Abstract

144,471. Williamson, G. E. June 13, 1919. Venting-apparatus. - The nozzle of a petrol can &c. has an air passage c, Fig. 3, provided preferably in the side or wall that is uppermost during pouring. The passage communicates with an air duct d comprising a trough-shaped strip or a tube secured by solder &c. on, in, or under the top of the can and arranged diagonally across the same. The upper end of the passage c is formed flush with the rim of the nozzle, so as to be closed by the cap b when the latter is screwed home. In the construction shown in Fig. 8, the nozzle has double walls a, a<1>, the wall a being threaded to take the screw-cap b. The annular air space so comprised has an upper outlet in the rim of the nozzle, positioned and adapted to be closed by the cap as in the other construction. The inner wall a<1> has an inclined V or other shaped channel f to facilitate the pouring of the contents. A sealing-cap or other device for preventing or detecting tampering &c. may be com. bined with the nozzle.
